Hi my name is Soli. For me journal writing is like breathing. Life in, life out. Expression of self in words on the page.

Paper, pen and a word for every occasion.

Journal Writing Block?

November 11th, 2010
Using your journal

More often than not when I ask people are they using their journal. They tell me, ‘it’s just too lovely, I don’t want to ruin it’ or ‘I just don’t know what to write’ or ‘I’m going to but just haven’t started yet’. Does any of this sound like you?

I’ve been the master of my journal for so long now that the idea that a journal could be too special or too lovely to write in is just bizarre to me.  People, – as beautiful as it might be, it’s just a blank book. The only power it has is the power that you give it. So while some seem content to keep their beautiful blank book and just look at it, I’m here to tell you how to harness the power of the space to express, that those blank pages long for you to use.

‘I don’t know what to write’ or ‘I haven’t started yet’. Come ON! What are you waiting for really? The only time that ever is, is now. And whatever it is that would emerge as your first word on the page right now, if you gave yourself permission to write it. Is the perfect expression of you in this moment.

While I’m tough on this issue, I can say I do understand. Truly being a bit of a perfectionist and control freak are things I have experienced. And I know for me that did hold me back for a while. Thinking I’ll wait to have something really interesting, or important or clever or poetic to write. But the moment of inspiration where what I had to say would be ‘good enough’ never came.

What I did and what you need to do if you’d like to smash through this journal writing block once and for all is…. Make a decision; you are master of the journal. As beautiful as it might be, it exists to be filled with your thoughts and feeling, it exists to allow you to express yourself in all your everyday ordinariness. Don’t deny your journal the chance to serve its powerful purpose in the world!

So decide right now in this moment that you’re going to make a start. Go on, go get that lovely blank journal, I dare you! Pen in hand, open the cover, look at all the space offering infinite possibility. Mmmm lovely journal. Now take that pen, perhaps start with the date. That’s always a confidence builder. We know we can get that right! And now….. write. It’s that easy.

For those still looking at a blank page, here’s a starter for you. Write this ‘ I am the master of my journal, this is my space to be totally me. My journal has no rules, in here I’m totally free! What’s happening with me right now is………’ Breathe deeply, relax let go and write whatever comes. Safe in the knowledge that whatever you’re writing is the exact perfect thing.

With Love, Soli xoxoxox

Hi Soli, we met on the plane when you went to see Oprah. I feel like I’m wasting valuable time by not dreaming what I want ( a wife, lots of book sales etc) and I think as I thought when you told me about transformational journal writing that there is a powerful key in what you spoke of.

Hi Trevor, so cool to hear from you! And yes, if you haven’t been letting yourself really feel what you truly want in your heart of hearts then you will have been holding yourself apart from it. Not to worry. In the moment you become aware of what you truly want and ask for it, it is given 🙂 now all you need to do is prepare yourself so you’re ready and able to receive it with open arms. You’re already a writer and already an honest chap from what i perceived so you’ll pick up the journaling thing no worries at all. Three main steps ~ create ~ use your imagination to get clear on THE BEST POSSIBLE outcome you can conceive of. ~release~ then be prepared to clear the limiting old beliefs within you that have you question if what you want is possible for you. ~Enjoy!~ don’t get caught up in trying to make anything happen. Trust that you’ll know what you need to do. Your part to play will be inspired and fun. And when you’re not called to inspired action, you’re job is to relax and enjoy. Celebrate what’s already awesome about you and your life. A sure fired way to clear the path and create the vibe required to bring in all your heart desires. Good luck with it my friend. Soli 🙂
